Het Carlo Banning Quartet bestaat uit drums, bas, elektrisch gitaar en saxen/fluit. Het specifieke geluid van de elektrische gitaar geeft een open, maar soms ook gruizige en vuige sound aan de stukken, terwijl in traditionele jazzkwartetten vaak de piano de hoofdrol speelt.
Vrijheid, spannende muzikale verhalen, onderlinge verbondenheid en vernieuwing zijn steekwoorden die dit project goed omschrijven.
De bandleden zijn ervaren en professionele muzikanten, die hun sporen verdiend hebben in talloze andere bands. Zij speelden o.a. bij Ruben Hein, Wicked Jazz Sounds Band, Rob van de Wouw, Lillian Hak en het Scallymatic Orchestra.
Carlo Banning (Saxes & Flute) – Hij werd gevormd door allerlei verschillende muziekstijlen. In combinatie met zijn conservatoriumopleiding maakt dit hem tot een veelzijdige en originele speler. Zijn geheel eigen stijl en veelzijdigheid komen in dit kwartet bij uitstek tot hun recht. ‘Old skool’ jazzy frases gecombineerd met pop- en zelfs house-invloeden, elektronische effecten: het maakt allemaal onderdeel uit van Carlo’s rijke geluid.
Hugo den Oudsten (bassguitar) – Toen zij net klaar waren met het conservatorium speelden Carlo en Hugo veel samen. In die tijd is hun vriendschap en muzikale klik ontstaan. In dit kwartet zal dit pas echt goed tot uiting komen. Hugo is een smaakvolle, muzikale én technische speler, wat hem tot een zeer gewild muzikant maakt. Naast zijn drukke schema met andere bands grijpt hij de mogelijkheid aan met zijn spannende baslijnen de bodem van de muziek naar een hoger plan te tillen.
Salle de Jonge (drums) – Geboren en getogen in een muzikale familie werd hij door zijn ouders gestimuleerd piano te gaan spelen (en dat kan hij ook nog steeds!). Maar toen Salle op zijn veertiende met drummen begon, wist dat hij hier echt op zijn plaats was. Het drumstel is het perfecte instrument om vette beats neer te zetten en op een percussieve manier een comfortabele en inspirerende muzikale bodem te creëren.
Bas van der Wal (guitar) – Een bescheiden muzikant, maar wat kan die gast spelen! Crunchy, vuig en gruizig, hij heeft het allemaal. Bas blijft ver weg van de brave gitaarsound. Hij combineert als geen ander rock met talloze andere muzieksmaken. Een ware aanwinst voor het jazzgerelateerde Carlo Banning Quartet.
The line up of the Carlo Banning Quartet consists of drums, bass, electric guitar and saxes/flute. The specific sound of the electric guitar gives the band a fresh, gritty and crunchy sound. This distinguishes the band from more traditional jazz quartets, where the piano is usually very important.

Carlo Banning (Saxes & Flute) - Shaped by all different styles of music and a conservatory study he’s is a versatile and original player. All these styles and tastes are applicable in this original quartet. Old skool jazzy lines, combined with more poppy and even house influences, electronic effects: it’s all part of Carlo’s rich sound.
Hugo den Oudsten (bassguitar) - Carlo and Hugo played a lot together when they had just finished the conservatory. Their friendship and musical click was founded round that time and now this quartet is the place where this really comes together. Hugo is a tasteful, musical and technical player, so everyone wants to play with him. Besides his busy schedule he takes the opportunity to provide this quartet with his thrilling bass lines.
Salle de Jonge (drums) - Born and raised in a musical family, Salle’s parents encouraged him to play the piano (and he still can!). But when he started playing drums at the age of fourteen he really felt at home. He soon discovered that drums are the perfect instrument to create groovy and swinging beats. Besides that, he provides a comfortable and inspiring musical atmosphere in the band.
Bas van der Wal (guitar)– He is modest, but oh my god, this guy can play! Crunchy and gritty, he’s got it all. Bas stays far away from the regular guitar sound. Like no other he combines rock with several other musical styles. A real asset for the jazz oriented Carlo Banning Quartet.
